The MOVÉS Project presented the Tu Vehículo Eléctrico (TuVE) programme, which allows public institutions and private companies to test an electric car, utility vehicle or truck free of charge for one month, as well as to install a charger free of charge.

How does it work? Subsidised by the programme, the beneficiary company is exempted from paying for the rental, administrative costs and installation of a 7 kilowatt charger. However, it does have to pay the deductible in the event of a claim.

If the charger is not installed, due to power shortage, the supplier must provide an emergency charger of lower power, included in the vehicle rental cost.

Within this framework, the MOVÉS, integrated by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), seeks to complete its 100 tests, so it limits up to 50 rentals to the beneficiaries, which will be valid until 30 September 2022.

In addition, in order to attract new actors, only those firms or institutions that have not previously participated in the project will be able to participate.

The programme will pay the sum of USD 700 including Value Added Tax (VAT) for a one-month rental test, or 50% of this amount if the test is for two weeks. The test can only be done on a single occasion, although it opens up the possibility of testing two different types of unit.

As far as the charger is concerned, an additional 100 USD including VAT will be paid in addition to the rental fee.

The call seeks to disseminate and demonstrate the viability of electromobility for a wide range of users and markets, promoting the replacement of combustion vehicles with cleaner and more sustainable alternatives.

«This initiative will allow us to continue reaching all sectors with electric mobility,» said Fitzgerald Cantero Piali, Director of Energy at the MIEM, at a press conference.

He also announced the progress of other measures related to electromobility. In this sense, he anticipated that this week the exchange with the authorities of the different departments will be closed so that, at the end of the current administration, each department will have at least one electric bus running on its streets.

As far as training is concerned, he assured that they are working with the fire brigade to train them so that they can respond to any emergency related to electric vehicles.

Its objective is to promote a low-carbon and efficient transport model in Montevideo, to be replicated in other cities in Uruguay, based on the improvement of institutional capacities, the development of adequate regulation and the application of innovative technologies.
