The Polish bus manufacturer Solaris has placed another order with Ballard Power Systems for multiple fuel cell modules. Most of the modules now ordered are for a hydrogen bus order from Germany.
Ballard will deliver 96 new modules to Solaris from the end of 2023, most of them in 2024. Fifty-two fuel cell modules will be used in the hydrogen buses ordered from Solaris by Rebus Regionalbus Rostock.
Another 44 modules will be installed in Solaris H2 buses for other customers. Ballard does not go into further detail in the press release.
Presented the current generation of its twelve-metre-long solo fuel cell bus, the Urbino 12 hydrogen, in 2019. The market launch of the articulated bus Urbino 18 hydrogen took place in September 2022.
Rebus Regionalbus has ordered 47 Urbino 12 hydrogen and five Urbino 18 hydrogen.
The two vehicles use slightly different fuel cell systems: according to the company, the twelve-metre version has 70 kW hydrogen fuel cell units, while the longer version has 100 kW. So far, 110 fuel cell buses with Ballard technology are in operation in Europe.
For Ballard, the current Solaris order is the largest single order from the bus sector in Europe.
