Electric car registrations in Spain continue to increase, but have not yet caught up with the neighboring country. The figures when compared to Portugal show an abysmal lead in the last month

Data shared by the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC) showed that electric-only car registrations accounted for 2.75% of the total, lower than expected figures.

In this last month, where the car in general is down in terms of sales, the electric car grew by 23% and reached 2,217 units registered in this month.

Meanwhile, hybrid cars reached 42.6% during April, and reach 4,391 units registered in this month. It represents 5.44% of the market share in April.

For the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles amounted to 14,959 units, 46.1% more than in the same period of the previous year. The cumulative market share for the year is 5.37%.

Within this panorama, the best-selling models have presented surprises, with the Citroën ë-C4 topping the sales podium for this last period.

With 215 units registered throughout these 30 days that passed, this car already accumulates a total of 483 sales throughout the first four months of this 2022.

This is a vehicle with a propellant with a power of up to 100 kW (136 hp) and a maximum torque of 260 Nm, all powered by a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery.

It has a range of 350 kilometers and is already one of the favorites in the Spanish market.

In second place, and behind the Citroën ë-C4, is the Kia e-Niro, with 151 cars of this type registered this month and 924 this year.

Kia is another favorite brand in the electric segment. In particular, this version has a high-capacity lithium-ion polymer battery, with 64 kWh.

In addition, its range in the combined cycle WLTP, reaches 485 kilometers on a single charge.

The podium is rounded off by the Dacia Spring, which registered 112 registrations in this last period.

This is Dacia’s first 100% electric model, which has a set of lithium-ion batteries with 27.4 kWh, a limited capacity and the lowest in this category in the market.

As for its range it can reach up to 230 kilometers on a full charge and in urban environments that figure can reach up to 300 kilometers.

What happened in Portugal

According to data collected by the Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP), electric vehicles accounted for 7.4% of the total market share in Portugal in April this year.

In this way, Spain is surpassed by 4.7%, lagging far behind in registrations this last month.

The electric car as a whole had 10,971 registrations so far in 2022, April had 1049 sales. Which marks an increase of 88.1% compared to the same period last year.

As for the most delivered brands in Portugal this past March, in first place, of all-electric cars, is the Peugeot brand with 152 units .

Second place goes to Hyundai with 115 electric cars sold and third place goes to Mercedes Benz with 101 deliveries.

Fourth and fifth place goes to Renault with 100 and Nissan with 68.

Hybrids account for 21.9% of the total vehicle market in Portugal with 3,103 units delivered. Differentiated between plug-in and non-plug-in, the former have 8.6% of total share and the latter 13.3%.
